Photo Klassik International: A new subscriber

I missed (well partly chose not to consider) the kickstarter for this. Then I subsequently heard an interview covering it on the Sunny 16 Podcast. I took a second look and decided to subscribe. I also bought the two already printed issues. With the latest issue sent as well I’ve got three issues to work my way though.

Issue 1

I’ve just about read through Issue 1. I imagine I’ll be re-reading it as there’s some great stuff in there, really I should say I’ve read through it for the first time.

I enjoyed the variety, it’s an incredible mix. Which does make it hard to pull out favourites, the contrast and flow thoughout is as enjoyable as any one article. I’ll highlight a few things I particular liked below though. It’s worth pointing out this is really well put together, edited and printed.

Super-8 for the 21st century” (Ignacio Benedeti Corzo) was amazingly timely for me. Since the FPP Podcast started talking about cine film/cameras, posting articles about them and Ektachrone was announced. I’ve been fascinated by moving pictures. More inspiration in this article, with points about cameras, creative choices, the new film, and was in general a really fascinating introduction. I’m looking forward to the further articles in later issues.

There were quite a few photographic spotlights/articles, and I particularly enjoyed Andrew Sanderson for the detail and expresivness of the photography. The insight into his hows and whys just added to the article.

Street Photography Today” (Chary Schuler) contains a variety of images and styles, I most enjoyed the beautiful colour images, with a delightfully rich palette from Niklas Porter.

I’m leaving how a huge portion of the articles, portfolios, images and work within that first issue, and probably doing them a disservice. I recommend getting a copy yourself (at photoklassik-international.com) and making your own mind up.

I’m sure I’ll write some similar highlights when I make it though the two other issues (2019 I and 2019 II).
