Cine Cameras
I’ve recently been fascinated by video. I guess I always have a little, I remember my grandad taking a video camera on holiday, rather than a stills camera. Add to that the increased talk about it on the FPP Podcast and my inclination to give it a go rises. As I noted in my Photo Klassik International Review articles in that has added to this further. That said I know very little about film making. So the learning curve is definately going to be intersting. Not just a new language of formats and types of cameras but of how to use them.
I wasn’t sure what format would be best to start on, while digital is potentially cheaper, in a way as with most things, there’s a lot against that in my mind. It was sort of decided when I accidentally bought a Bolex C8 from eBay (I made a spontaneous offer, which I thought had been rejected but wasn’t). Seems to be working (not film tested) but not without imperfections. It’s a clockwork double/standard/regular 8 camera. There’s a limited amount of film for this, and the FPP have just released more, so should be some interesting ongoing advanaces. If I can work out home development then it may work out not too expensive, sending it out would be at around £50 for a film, processing and scanning (at a minimum, depending on film cost).
So there we go, another thing to learn about, similar to photography, but different. I’ll share more when I’ve got further than a camera sitting in a drawer.
