My Take on Minimalism
I have urges to minimalism, while not necessarily being the aesthetic minimalist that seems to grab the headlines.
What I mean by that is that I don’t like a profusion of things cluttering up places. However I do acquire things, own things and don’t worry too much about it, beyond being careful not to needless buy stuff. Think more along the lines of the careful question “why are you getting this?” than anything else.
Pragmatist is probably a better term. A place for everything and everything in its place may also apply. Although I admit to not being great at the latter half at times, and also wanting to minimise the places.
This is particularly pertinent at the moment as we’re in the process of moving home. While we’re not at the stage where we’re packing yet, I’m concious of the fact that we will be soon. This means I’m thinking about what would be better removed, rather than moved.
The other side of that coin is we’re moving somewhere larger (one bed flat to three bed house). There are good reasons for the up-size, but what we want to avoid is filling the extra space pointlessly. That is where the pragmatism will come in. We need/want to add some things that will be practically useful or benefit us. However we don’t want to add too much.
It’s a balancing act, I suppose.
